House Prep and socks for sanity

Image
There was a huge sort out of condiments. I could then see the base of cupboard was damaged. So it was repaired, painted and remaining bits crated up. All chemicals gone through, so one crate on the go and the spares in the other crate. Lockdown is over! No need to stockpile. Use up before buying.   I have been painting everywhere, sorting, honing down posessions, trying to create a feeling of space in this house. It is long overdue. I have been asking myself what I want my life to look like in the future. What items will help me? What items are inventory that I spend my life looking after, but don't gain anything from?  To help me relax, I have finished a pair of socks for son. I am currently working on the last ball of sock yarn for husband's socks.

i have 4 balls of sock yarn, and they make a small portable project on car trips. 2 balls used so far. A knee high or slouch turquoise pair for wellies of boots (zigzag yarn) and a walking boot pair in pink and grey (nordic yarn). Lots of house painting, honing, donating and organising instead of crafting.

Folk on the Lawn: Gazebo Banners

Image
2 Gazebos needed banners in English and Welsh for "Folk on the Lawn" 9th - 12th July music festival in Tintern. The committee weren't sure about headroom, so they can be hung vertically along the legs as well as across the top.

Oak Leaf Headpiece,

To go with the Oak Leaf Cape I created a vegetable leather headpiece. Each leaf was lightly carved, shaped, painted and sewn in position. The band has a ribbon matching the cloak. It should  stop the leather from stretching.

This project took over a year to gather the various coloured scraps of leather that would otherwise end up in landfill. it is a birthday present for my husband. He will wear it to Fantasy Forest this year.

Folk on the Lawn: Cottage Stage

Image
This was promised to the organisers of Folk on the Lawn, held on 9th July for 4 days in Tintern. All monies raised are divided up between the bands.  I am so glad to have this finished in good time. Fabric was saved from landfill by Gloucester Scrapstore. They are a lovely bunch.   2 banners one in Welsh and 1 in English. The reverse is silvery and reflective, so i made that the main fabric side. 12 swags to go across the front of the stage without blocking the view of the bands. 14 curtains. 4 to each side and 6 to the rear.

Pot of Joy (inspired by 1930s floral ceramics)

Image
I had a moment this month when i spotted a part dinner set that sparked joy. It wasn't in good enough condition to use nor display, what with crazing, chips and a badly mended horrific break to a tureen. And yet...  I had to make something to honour the joy the set evoked. It dated from the mid 1930s so saw its owners through a war. I hope it gave hope and joy to them. I wish I could buy an everyday set like this now. Goodness knows the world needs it.  Inspired I set to work, trying to recreate that joy in felt.
